Save the Sea Turtles International (SSTI) was founded in 1988 by Marlu Oliphant, who began rescuing entangled sea turtles and cleaning beaches on O'ahu to protect the disappearing populations she witnessed firsthand. Under the leadership of Juan Oliphant and Ocean Ramsey since 2007, the organization expanded its efforts to include coral reef restoration by removing destructive fishing lines, organizing regular beach cleanups, and conducting shark disentanglement dives through their team at One Ocean Diving. What started as a local initiative has grown into a lasting legacy of marine conservation, embodying the belief that we don't inherit the ocean but borrow it from future generations.
